Cat Behaviour Consultations
Helping you understand your cat’s behaviour through science, empathy, and welfare
Cats are often misunderstood and when behaviour problems arise, they’re frequently blamed rather than supported.
I offer professional cat behaviour consultations designed to uncover the underlying causes of behaviour concerns and help you create an environment where your cat can feel safe, secure, and understood.
Common reasons people seek cat behaviour consultations
Cat behaviour issues are one of the most common reasons cats are surrendered or rehomed, yet many are highly preventable or manageable with the right support.
I commonly help with:
House soiling or litter tray avoidance
Aggression toward people or other animals
Fearful or anxious behaviour
Inter-cat conflict in multi-cat households
Scratching furniture or destructive behaviour
Overgrooming or stress-related behaviours
Behaviour changes following moves, renovations, or new pets
Transitioning outdoor cats to indoor or contained living
If you’re asking “why is my cat doing this?”, a cat behaviour consultation can provide clear, evidence-based answers.
A cat-centred, welfare-first approach
Cats experience and express stress differently to dogs — which is why cat behaviour requires specialised knowledge.
My work with cats is:
Science-led and welfare-focused
Non-punitive and humane
Based on understanding feline behavioural and emotional needs
Prevention, not just problem-solving
I have extensive experience working with cats in private homes, shelters, and policy and education roles, including supporting guardians to safely transition cats to indoor living.
What happens in a cat behaviour consultation
Cat behaviour consultations are structured, supportive, and practical.
They may include:
Duration: Up to 90 minutes
A detailed assessment of your cat’s behaviour, environment, and history
Identification of stressors, triggers, and unmet needs
Guidance on environmental modification and enrichment
Litter tray setup and location assessment
Strategies to reduce fear, conflict, or anxiety
A personalised behaviour modification plan
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what your cat is communicating and how to respond in ways that improve behaviour and wellbeing.
Who cat behaviour consultations are for
Cat behaviour consultations are suitable for:
Single-cat and multi-cat households
Kittens through to senior cats
Rescue and adopted cats
Guardians seeking prevention, not just problem-solving
Early intervention can make a profound difference to a cat’s quality of life and to the human–cat bond.
